Dreamworks was started in 1977 by three aspiring animators. Rich Donahue, Rich Biloxi, and Thomas W. Yee were working as animators for the Disney studios when they decided to form their own company. They were instrumental in creating the first three films released by the company, namely The Nightmare Before Christmas, Finding Nemo, and The Madagascar franchise. Since then, they have gone on to produce and release over fifty films including Wreck-It Ralph, Zootopia, Kung Fu Panda, etc. There is also a popular TV series named after Dreamworks Animation.
